The theoretical basis for the development of the Vortical Lift-Propellent System is offered Zhukovsky’s Vortical Theory of the Airscrew (1912). According to the theory, the blades of the airscrew are replaced by a system of Joined and Free Vortexes (Fig. 4-A), forming Screw Vortical Shroud in a common case (Fig. 4-B). In this work, N.E.Zhuckovsky formulated the idea of a propeller with optimum distribution of inductive speed (unit thrusts) over the swept area. From the author’s name this called the Airscrew NEJ or the “Ideal” Propeller.

Fig.4. A. The Vortical scheme of the airscrew: 1-joined vortexes; 2-free vortexes; a dashed line and arrows near it — plane and direction of rotation of the airscrew; arrows at vortexes — direction of circulation of speed. B. A descend of free vortexes from the ends of blades of the airscrew (experiment the TsAGI).

Ideas of the “Allocation” and “Limiting” airscrew, together with the Vortical System of Thrust, allow to create a fundamentally different lift device, achieving a more effective design using the concept of the “Ideal” Propeller. Thus a recurring problem is solved, where velocity on periphery of the vortex is near zero and maximum at the center, in which the form of its cross section approaches the form of the blade of the «NEZh» propeller and creates an epure of unit thrusts (inductive speeds), a characteristic for the “Overlimit” airscrew.

The group of vortical devices is brought together in the Vortical Lift-Propellent System (Fig. 5-A).This lightly loaded design has not rotating parts, is static, and has low height and simple technology. Their thrust is produced gasodynamically, without rotation of blades in the air, and is spread evenly over a working surface (Fig. 5-B). In view of these properties, we said about “carpet” design of the Lift-Propellent System, similar fantastic the “Magic carpet”.

When replacing conventional lift system, for example of the helicopter, with the Vortical devices we must also take into account the elimination of the heavy-loading by centrifugal, dynamic and vibratating forces on the main rotor, its three-knuckle hub, complex control system, main gearbox, transmiting a large torque, tail rotor and tail structure, and the heavy loads on the fuselage. These are tremendous advantages over conventional helicopters.

The Lift-Propellent System can supply propulsion which approaches the propulsive efficiency of the plane propeller. According to our estimates, the Vortical Lift-Propellent (“Magic carpet”) System produces propelsive and economic efficiencies significantly greater than traditional lifting rotor. To drive these Vortical Lift-Propellent System, RTC VZLYOT suggests the use of ecologically clean power plants: the Hyperflywheel and the Steam-Gas Turbine, considered above.
